Dr. McCauley and his group, Northeast Florida OBGYN, turned my first pregnancy from what should have been a happy moment to an absolute nightmare. Prior to my pregnancy, I had already seen physicians from this practice for pre-planning appointments. As soon I became pregnant, I developed a major infection. Doubled over in pain, I tried to get an appointment to see my OBGYN. The office staff was cold and uncaring. They told me that they simply did not have the time to work me in and told me to report to the E.R. During my follow up appointment I was assigned to Dr. McCauley as he was one of the few available physicians in this practice. He was cold, uncaring and treated my continual infections and eventual bouts of spotting with indifference. His office staff were even worse. When faced with pain, I would beg to speak to his nurse as she was the only individual who would listen to me, order tests and arrange to get me antibiotics and pain medication.
His practice saw such a large amount of patients that I was not allowed by Dr. McCauley to even put my clothes on after a check-up. As he put it, 'we don't have time for you to dress'. Humiliated, I would have to finish my appointments half naked.
Office staff and nursing assistants never read my charts and when they did, the information was often incorrect, with wrong blood tests ordered, my height, weight, and race...completely off. My pregnancy ended in a painful miscarriage which was not even recorded in my chart as I came in for a follow up and the nurse, casually glancing at my chart asked me when I was due?
When I brought all of my issues to his office manager, she checked my records and agreed that I had viable complaints but that because of the volume of patients they saw, having one or two 'slip through the cracks' was inevitable. I couldn't believe my ears.
I vowed from that day forward to warn any expectant mother to stay away from Dr. McCauley or his group, Northeast Florida OBGYN. Pregnancies are a gift and should be treated with care and respect, regardless of how busy a practice is.
The only thing that came out of that office quickly and accurately were the bills for 'services' rendered.
