I'd been to a different doctor at the same office, but he was out of town, so I saw Dr. Starkey to discuss my total inability to lose weight and my hormones feeling out of whack (moodswings, etc.).  Without spending a single moment getting to know me or asking me any questions about my lifestyle at all, he said me it was probably all in my head.  His recommendations were that I get more exercise (I work out 5 days a week), that I see a psychologist, and/or that I begin taking fish oil supplements. I resolved not to see this doctor again. I went to my OB/GYN a month later and was told I have fibroids on my uterus and cervix.  Some of the side effects of these mostly harmless cysts are moodswings from hormonal imbalance and the inability to lose weight. She put me on the pill, which evened out my mood and I lost 6 pounds. Fast forward a few months later; I had some appendicitis-like symptoms. I made an appt at Dr. Starkey's office and I specifically requested to see a different doctor. On arrival, I was informed the other doctor was out and Dr. Starkey would see me instead. He ordered an ultrasound, which I accomplished within two business days.  Then I heard nothing for a full week. I finally contacted his office to ask if they'd gotten the results and was told that yes, they're in my file, and I was assured Dr. Starkey would call. He never did. After a few more days of waiting, I faxed his office to complain. His assistant called and told me my fibroids had gotten larger and that the doctor recommended I go back to my gynecologist. The assistant then assured me the ultrasound results would be sent to the OB/GYN office as soon as possible. I called the day before my appt with my gynecologist and only then was I informed I had to fill out a release form for them to send anything to another office!  I dropped everything at work, went to the office in person, signed the necessary form, and gave them all the necessary contact information for my gynecologist's office. I was assured - twice and face to face - they would get the ultrasound results over by fax in time for my appt the next day. Needless to say, they didn't arrive.  The front desk staff at my gynecologist's office had to call and harass, harangue, and badger Dr. Starkey's office for the information. They were hung up on TWICE and then sent the fax arrived fully 30 minutes into my appt time. My gynecologist - who calls me when I leave a message and handles lab work results herself - has scheduled me for an MRI to rule out cancer. If I'd stayed with Dr. Starkey and his office, I may still be waiting.....and the big 'C' isn't something you WAIT to find out.
