My first clue that this dentist was not up to par was that there was no one waiting in the waiting room and the appointment time slots were readily available. The best way to describe my visits are to list each interaction and let you decide for yourself; 1. While drilling out a particularly bad cavity I commented on the taste and smell. Dr. Schlessinger told me to 'quit your bitching.' 2. A hygenist was rarely present and did nothing to assist. The metal from the filling was all over my mouth and I was permitted to spit it out at the very end of the filling. 3. Insisted that adult fluoride treatments do nothing to prevent decay. 4. After going to a second dentist to finish my course of treatment, she discovered that Dr. Schlessinger did not remove all of the decay on my molar and placed the temporary filling over top of the decay. I needed an immediate root canal. When I went back to Dr. Schlessinger to claim the money that I overpaid him, I told him what the other dentist discovered. He became very agitated and proclaimed, 'You were not to remove the temporary filling. I don't know why we're having this conversation. I've done nothing wrong!' He proceeded to claim that I entirely misunderstood what he'd told me, etc. In the same conversation, I explained to him that another tooth he filled was always very sensitive. He said, 'Well, it's touching the nerve! Of course it's going to be sensitive.' We'd NEVER had a conversation about the seriousness of this particular filling. And it's my understanding that if a decay has affected the nerve it's in need of a root canal. Overall, my experience with Dr. Schlessinger was extremely negative. I felt that he is rude and confrontational. I am an educated woman who likes to be proactive with my health and I felt that Dr. Schlessinger was intentionally misleading in his conversations and when questioned for clarification he becomes extremely defensive and demeaning. To be told to 'quit [my] bitching' was entirely unprovoked and wholy unprofessional. I would not recommend him to anyone. |
