Comments for Dr. Alfred Santoro
This doctor is not honest. I went to see him this February and after an X-Ray he told me that my spine has a curve and he promised that he will fix it. Since my insurnace only allows 12 visits, he promised me that we will do 12 visits first, 3 a week, then see how it goes. He explicitly explained to me, the number of visit is important. 'It's like jacking up something, it takes that many times of cranking'.
After 12 visits, he says I need more visits. I asked how my spine was doing? He told me that 'it improved a lot', since I did not feel so, I asked how do you know? He told me that he has very sensitive fingers that can feels it. I asked about whether he can show me concreate result. He says human body is very suttble, 'you can't really measure it, but I can feel it'. He also told me that I needed to do some shoulder movements, and claimed that he couldn't ask me to do it at the very begining because 'your body was not ready for it'. However, later he instructed me to do it 'for the rest of my life'.
I continued for several weeks on a 2 visits a week schedule. I did not feel much improvment. So I asked about the progress again. It's already about 2 months into the treatment. I started to complain and he instantly responded 'Do you think I intend to keep you on a 2 visits a week schedule forever? No! I am going to switch you to a 1 visits a week very soon!'.
I suggested an X-Ray to verify the progress. He claimed 'in order to get any noticable change on X-Ray, you will have to get at least 6 months treatment'. I asked why I was not told at the very begining that it needed 6 months, he told me because my body does not react well (contradicts with his previous claim that I am actually doing pretty well --- I could actually do something that a few weeks ago my body was not ready to do). So now I am cut down to 1 visit/week, but he claims that I needed a total of 6 months, since I have already had 2 months of treatment, that's about 4 month remaining.
I decided to stay on 2 visit/week, continued for about another 2 months. According to his 'number of visits matters' theory, I should have enough number of visits as if I stayed for 6 months and I am suppose to see some changes on the X-Ray. Yet he tries to find every reason to avoid taking it. Such as 'X-Ray is not good for you', even hinted that the problem is much in my mind rather than in my spine.
Eventually I stopped treatment, without feeling much improvements at all. I later I consulted my primary physician and she told me generally a chiropractor can NOT move bones that has already grown into its place. They can loose the joints a bit, which can make you feel very differently if applied correctly. But overdoing it can be harmful.
As such it appears to me that this doctor does not really tell the truth. All he is trying to do is to keep you as long as he can since he charges by visits. I would not want to see such a doctor again.
