Comments for Dr. Dane Shepherd

I have never had a worse medical experience than with this doctor and office (which might explain why it was so easy to get an appointment). I first came to an appointment about a fairly minor but annoying issue that I was having (and I specifically wanted an osteopathic approach to it because I felt that it might be more holistic); I wanted for nearly an hour to see the doctor. He then talked to me very briefly, took a phone call while I waited, and sent me with an intern into a room where they examined me. They then asked me to come back for another appointment where they could better determine how to treat me. I returned. This time I wanted for an hour and 15 minutes. I then was put in a room where the doctor held his fists under my spine for some time, and then asked the intern to take over for him. She did so for about another 25 minutes. He returned and attempted accupuncture on my hands and feet. He did not tell me he was going to do this and in fact, told me to close my eyes before he put in the needles, perhaps thinking I would freak out if he told me what he was doing (which was very uncool as I'd never had accupuncture before at that time -- I've had it since and if done properly, it works on a number of ailments). He asked me to make an appointment to return the following week, and I did so, and it was a similar appointment. I was always there for more than two hours, usually waiting in the waiting room or in an exam room for the doctor or an intern. He never explained why he did any of the procedures or how he thought they would help my condition. The condition did not lesson in the several visits that I made. On my final visit, I waited in the waiting room for nearly two hours, and I finally got up and left without seeing anyone. The office staff seemed unsurprised and the man behind the desk that morning apologized and said he "didn't blame me." Afterward, I was charged for the visit on the credit card that I gave during my first visit (I should've seen this practice as a sign of things to come). It turned into a billing dispute over nearly $200, and in the end, I wound up paying just to have the experience behind me. (And never mind that I have excellent health insurance with Blue Cross Blue Shield.) The next doctor I visited was able to treat my issue within two appointments and explained everything to me thoroughly.
