Comments for Dr. Kurt Pierce
Dr. Pierce, although in a specialty where is mainly treats children, did not treat my child in a manner that I appreciated. Dr. Pierce is a very large man with a very loud and deep voice. I think my daughter found that threatening. Comments regarding her dental hygiene were bellowed out in an open room for all waiting patients and parents to hear. We were constantly told that her hygiene was bad, yet I would take her for extra cleanings at our regular dentist, and they would tell me her hygiene was fine, what 12 year old couldn't brush a little better? I tried to explain to the dr. that I was worried about her self esteem and that the manner in which he was communicating to her wasn't the best way to get through to her, he wrote down on her records that 'the mother broke down into tears, sobbing' (I did not, but even if I had, does this have anything to do with her orthodontic treatment?) Once we had finished our payments to Dr. Pierce, treatment for my daughter was deemed 'complete.' This seemed like a bit of a coincidence to me, and I took her to 3 other orthodontists, all of whom said she had an additional 6 months-12 months of treatment. One of the orthodontists we saw for a second opinion asked me not to tell him the name of the orthodontist we were currently seeing. He examined my daughter, listened to my story and my concerns, and said, 'Is it Dr. Pierce??' I guess we weren't the first ones to tell him this same story. My husband and I had a meeting with Pierce, trying to solve this, at which time he told my husband and I that I had 'psychological issues.' (Guess you get a 2-for with Dr. Pierce, orthodontist and shrink, all wrapped into one!!  ) We are currently under the care of another board certified orthodontist. My daughter is much happier, as am I. I just feel like we were cheated. Not only out of the fee that we paid this orthodontist, but out of this time and effort that we put into her treatment.
