Comments for Dr. Stephen Travis
I took my son to Dr. Travis from the age of 2 weeks to 6 months in 2000. He was very unsupportive of breastfeeding and couldn't believe I didn't have my son circumsized. He was always rude to the point of being unprofessional. He was very pompus and down right pushy when I told him I wanted to delay a few vaccinations due to my son being sick at the time. He always told me, 'Your son can not attend school without these shots'...which is a lie. My son attends school now, with an 'incomplete' shot record with NO problems and no questions. Everytime he would walk into the room, my son would scream as if in pain until he left. My son did not do this with the nurses, just the doctor. I found a new doctor because I just couldn't deal with Dr. Travis anymore.
Then, to my utter dismay, in 2005 the clinic in our hometown (where I had began to take my son and where I had been treated all of my life) hired him. He saw me and/or my son a few times for check ups and various other health issues, but when he realized I had no insurance, he fired me as a patient saying in a nasty letter that I was too 'confrontational' and refused to follow doctors recomendations. This was after he diagnosed my son with asthma when he actually had pnemonia!!! (Which was confirmed with a second opinion).
Now that our old family physician has retired, Dr. Travis, along with the various P.A.'s are the only 'medical care' we have to chose from for a 40 mile radius. Due to this fact, my son, who is now 7 years old, hasn't had so much as a check up since 2006. Thankfully, I have a healthy son, and could, if necessary take him to the ER for any emergencies. Unfortunately, Dr. Travis ALSO works at our local hospital, and it would be the 'luck of the draw' whether I got him in the ER or not.
It was my experience, with this doctor, that he pushes Western Medicine. The good aspects of it, as well as the bad. He thinks that after spending less than Five Minutes with a patient, they should take his advice about health care. He never considers the individuality of the patient. The health care in our town has suffered greatly because of this attitude.
