Comments for Dr. Virginia Brookings
This doctor and her entire staff are unusually knowledgeable and caring individuals, who treat each animal (and owner) as if they are the only patient needing help.
They are gentle, soft-spoken, and determined to accomplish the best outcome of every problem they encounter...both in the interest of the pet involved, and the pet owner.
My dogs-a Pomeranian and a Chihuahua-were terribly mal-treated by their previous vet, and therefore terrified of vet visits. Now, although they still are anxious during the trip, once they realize they are at the 'good' vet's office, they both become calm and cooperate beautifully in interactions with the doctor and her staff.
What my dogs overcame: my 13-yr-old Pom has an enlarged heart & had a massive tartar problem to the point she almost could not eat - 'bad' vet said no anesthetic due
to heart, but she could 'just strap her down & work without it!'; 'good' vet used
geriatric gas, and I have a new puppy! My 6-yr-old Chihuahua yiped with pain when I tried to pick her up - 'bad' vet said x-ray not warranted - just 'drama for Mama'- 'good' vet did x-ray & found calcified vertebrae, plus displaced rib from old injury (fell off
a bed) and now I can pick her up...although I must be careful about her rib cage. Unfortunately, before I learned this, 'bad' vet said she had tumor in 1 breast, so would spay while under anesthetic-tumor was benign, but breast removed. 2 weeks later, inside stitch protruded through skin. Visit to 'bad' vet resulted in just yanking stitch out. At every visit with either or both dogs - they were removed from exam room out of my sight & I heard them yelp or cry, but was always told 'that wasn't your dog - we have lots of dogs back there.' After surgery, I was not allowed to see my Chihuahua where she was being kept overnight, and over her cries, she was brought to an exam room and dumped in my lap. No apparent medication for pain was administered. Items I had brought (at their suggestion) such as bedding, and toy, were returned to me untouched-I know this because I'd bought them new (they said they'd been washed because the dog had soiled them). My last complaint involved a bag of dry dogfood sold to me, that became infested with larvae which produced tiny moths - I fought these for months in my small apartment before I discovered the source.
On your scorecard, I'd rate the 'bad' vet a Minus 10 and do tell people with pets not
to go there - I call it a butcher shop - plus they are the most expensive 'shop' in our
city. Thanks for a place to vent...AND praise for Dr. Virginia Brookings & her staff. If
only ALL vets truly cared for their patients as these folks do, and also realized how
much it distresses owners to see their pets in pain, but not know how to help them.
