Psychiatry is a field that is supposed to be held to a higher standard of privacy. This physician after a 30 minute session with my young adult child and myself decided that the purpose of our going to him was to seek drugs. He did not state that opinion while we were there. He proceeded to call two outside medical care providers after our visit to advise them that my child had been to him for the purpose of seeking drugs. I was in the room for the entire visit and this was not the case. We went to him asking that he manage all aspects of care versus going to several providers. He was given the names of the providers and what current medications were being given. Patients who doctor shop presumably do not give out names of their doctors. We did not agree with his opinion on what medical course that we should take and left within 30 minutes. His actions were misguided and the quality of care received sub par and mismanaged. It is well known that breaking the bonds of confidentiality in therapy should only occur in significant and life theatening instances. This was not the case. |
