2000 - 2007 |
Dr. Kahwaji was a very kind and caring doctor who treated my family for a total of 12 years. The key word is -was- . Up until late 2005, you could go to him with any problem, concern- he would do his best to help you. He exhibited genuine concern towards patients, and even made house calls on his own free time. Unfortunately, as his practice grew larger, and he relocated, he lost the empathy he had towards patients, and became geared towards doing everything by the book, regardless of the issue. He didn't seem interested in learning new techniques, or discovering new information. During this time, I discovered that he does not hold the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual community in high regard. Especially the transsexual community. This may be due to his Islamic religion, maybe not. I am very disappointed with the direction Dr. Kahwaji has taken, and I strongly recommend to anyone in the GLBT community avoid him. I will not be going back to his clinic.

I would like to add my experience going to the clinic today to get a publicly funded flu shot which I qualify for as my husband has a chronic illness, diabetes (type 2) which Dr. Kahwaji is aware of as my husband has also been treated by him.
I received my shot last year at a Fraser Health Port Moody clinic, but Dr. Kahwaji told me that he wasn't sure if that qualifed me, my son was also with me and asked how much did the shot cost and the dr responded it's ok that he would give it to us as if he was doing us a favour, and then made other comments that he didn't want a little old lady coming in a few weeks time and not having enough vaccine.
I called the BC Nurses 24 hr line and was assured by the nurse to put my mind at eases that we definitely do qualify and the dr should read his information more carefully.
After Dr. Kahwaji discouraged my husband from getting a benign cist removed from the middle of his back because of his diabetes he promptly got a referral to a surgeon, which Dr. Kahwaji refused to do, from another dr and had the procedure with no complications and has not been back to the Plateau clinic.
I also recommend avoiding him and will not be going back to his clinic.
