I was passing out 2-3 times per month for an undiagnosed reason. I had one of these episodes on a sunday and was rushed to the E.R by ambulance. The attending physician could not diagnose the reason for my episode but noticed that my potassium levels were critically low. They immediately put me on a potassium drip and he asked my wife if she knew CPR! He urgently insisted that I be waiting on my doctors doorstep first thing monday morning as my heart could quit beating with my potassium this low. Monday I called Dr. Greers office at 9:00am and reported the problem and asked to be seen. His nurse said that he was not in yet and that she would have him give me a call. About 11:00 am I called back to see if Dr. Greer had set an appointment for me. The nurse said that he would give me a call. At 2:30pm I called back and asked for a status. The nurse told me that Dr. Greer had reviewed the E.R reports and had decided that I did not need to be seen!!! I told the nurse that this was un-acceptable. She rudely told me that there was nothing I could do about it!! The next day I received a letter saying that Dr. Greers office would never treat me or any member of my family again???? what the heck!!! FYI- Turns out I was having anaphalaxis attacks from a rare blood cancer called mastocytosis. I could have and did nearly die several months later when I passed out quit breathing and my heart went into a ventricular escape rhythm of 25! I was in ICU for two weeks before being shipped to methodist for a pacemaker and mayo for furthur evaluation! |
