Dr. Baldwin is a very knowledgeable professional. He is also very business-like and tends to be very serious about health issues that his patients are experiencing. He works with in terms who are completing their medical studies and successfully divides his time between the responsibilities of those as well as his own patients. He tends to be very organized in his own personal way as well as with the business matters that entail being in charge of consultants specializing in endocrinology. There is one difficult moment that I did have with the doctor. I have had two transplants within my years being a patient of the doctor. The first transplant was done back in 1991 and works very well. The kidney that I received is very strong and hearty. I have also received a pancreas transplant that worked for abut six years and then just simply ceased working. To express my feelings, I was in shock. I have been what is termed a 'brittle' diabetic that has a difficult time controlling my glucose levels. In spite of this, I am hypoglycemic unaware. Usually a persons body will give signs indicating that the body is in need of glucose. I have been a diabetic sine 1974 and my nerves no longer are sensitive to provide with the indication that I need to consume some form of glucose to stay within good form. No one becomes aware that something is wrong until it is too late and paramedics or other professional health has to be summoned. Well having to go back to taking injections once again took a lot to get used to. Remember that I have not had to worry about insulin or much of anything concerning such matters since my pancreas transplant done in 2001. I had asked the doctor if he could write me up some documentation so that I could take some time off from work. He stated that I did not need to take time off and that matters could be done by phone contact as far as insulin adjustments were concerned. He just did not seem to understand that I was in SHOCK. I had to change all of my daily life preparations that included testing for glucose levels, taking insulin injections, making sure that my food intake allows what is good to eat and what is not and when to eat along with the additional insulin injections now every time that a major meal is consumed. This was simply all things that I had not had to even think about for the last six years. I just do not believe the doctor realized what a BIG shock this was to me. He reluctantly wrote up paperwork so that I could take some time off but he did it in a manner that indicated that I needed to 'QUIT' working. This was not my intention but the employer stated that due to what the doctor had written, I 'had' to resign. Thus instead of abut 2 or three months off to get used to taking and dealing with insulin once again, I was forced to permanently stop work. I do believe that the doctor just was not under the impression how much this really affected me. All I needed was just a few weeks but I am em joying the free time now. I still am under Dr. Baldwin's care and this one miscommunication is the only matter that has occurred. As I have indicated before, I cannot hold it against him. Dr. Baldwin is a wonderful doctor and has seventeen excellent years that I know of that have been nothing but true professional medical skill as a doctor. |
