To Whom It May Concern,

On Thursday Feb 28th, 2008 my son's daycare called to warn me that he came down with a high fever of 103.2 F and needed to be picked up.  My wife made a last min appointment with our Pediatrician Dr. Kevin Lee for 5pm.  As we were permitted to enter into the examination room, Dr. Kevin Lee started to chastise his office staff for booking a last min appointment as he explained had prior commitments and needed to leave.  His conduct was inappropriate, as we were the last patients for him to see and he made sure we heard the conversation knowing full well that the door of the examination room was open.  He came into the room and tossed his chart board down on the examination bed and asked what he could do for us tonight.  To our surprise we were not sure what to say, we explained our son's condition biting our tongues thinking in the back of our minds, this is the only Pediatrician we presently have and cannot afford to loose the care provided for our son knowing how difficult it is to find a Pediatrician in Ontario.  His mannerism was highly unprofessional and made us feel that our son was insignificant.

A Pediatrician should be a special type of Doctor as they care for our children.  They need to have all the patients in the world and to enjoy caring for children.  They chose this profession and should live by their commitment.  When a private practice like this one for example becomes an assembly line of children and all the doctor can look at is dollars and cents, then that doctor needs to choose another profession!!!

As a result, Dr. Kevin Lee disregarded my son's symptoms and told us he was fine and to administer Tylenol (a quick fix).  It was clear by his actions he did not care about my sons symptoms and in a disgruntle manner told us there was no sign of infection.  My wife had to ask him to check the tubes in his ears and tonsils for risk of infection, should this not be standard practice?

Later that night, I checked on my son before I went to bed around 12:30am and found his fever had spiked back up to 103.5 F.  I administered more Tylenol and dis-clothed him to bring down the fever.  My wife took over for a few min and decided he needed a diaper change and made her way down the stairs from his room.  About half way down the stairs my wife screamed my name and I rushed to see what it was.  My son went into a seizure in her arms and started to convulse, his eyes rolled back and stopped breathing.  I immediately took him and started to administer CPR as I did not know what was happening?  As I was giving him CPR, my wife called 911 for help.  After about a minute of CPR, my son started to breath on his own.  The paramedics came through our door a few min later and took his vital signs and put him on oxygen.

After spending a night in Markham/Stoufville hospital and bringing our son to Sick Children's Hospital the next day (to seek proper care) we were told he suffered from a febrile seizure.  This type of seizure comes from the onset of high fevers and are common.  We still don't fully understand why our son stopped breathing and are seeking alternate advise from specialists to find out why.

I think this episode could have been prevented if Dr. Kevin Lee took more care in providing a proper diagnose of my son's symptoms.  If a doctor has a problem with their office staff booking last min appointments, then he/she should take up the matter with the individuals in private.  Take responsibility for your staff's actions at the time and deal with the matter in private out of the patients view.  You hired your staff, take some responsibility and show some professionalism.  I have received better treatment at a Tim Horton's compared to the treatment Dr. Kevin Lee provided.

Dr. Kevin Lee's office is located at 3950 - 14th Avenue, Suite 105, Markham ON L3R OA9
