Dr. Merchant is a fantastic doctor!  She is extremely thorough, and very careful about everything.  New moms beware...she can be a bit too thorough in my opinion and a bit of an alarmist.  However, I'd rather have a doctor be overly catious, then one that doesn't take anything seriously.  I have brought my 2 year old son to my appointments (basic pregnancy follow up appointments) and she has been fantastic with him.  Other doctors will scoff at children being in the room, and can be rather unfriendly to an already weary child.  I wouldn't change her for anything in the world.

However, with every positive comes several negatives.  Here are my complaints.  The wait time in the waiting room is RIDICULOUS.  There have been times I have been at the office for 2 hours before seeing her!   A bit of a wait should always be expected with obgyn's since there are so many last minute emergencies, etc.  However, the staff needs to take more responsibility for this and keep the waiting patients up on the progress, or be proactive and call when they know she'll be really late.  My time is too precious to be spent in the waiting room with bad tv and little reading material. 

One of the best things about her practice is that she has an ultrasound machine right in the office.  No making additional appointments, and if she suspects a problem in the smallest way, she's on it, and will do an ultrasound immediately to ensure the baby's safety.  It's really great for piece of mind.  However, the ultrasound tech is only in the office 2 days a week, which means appointments fill up really quickly.  She could also use a little bit of caffeine - there's definitely a lack of personality and spunk from someone who should love getting to see unborn babies grow and develop, and their parents so happy, all day.  I'd love her job!

I would recommend Dr. Merchant to anyone.  However, bring lots of reading material.....you'll need it.
