They were very nice the 1st visit but I had to pay $240 out of pocket for x-rays and debriment and I was told I would need a 2nd visit for scaling and my insurance would pay 80% of that.  That is all I was told.

They canceled my Saturday appointment on Friday via voice mail. When I called to reset they told me all they had was a Friday.

It was on the day of the 2nd visit while I was sitting in the chair ready for the scaling to begin that her assistant came in to explain the cost. She proceeded to tell me that the procedure would take 4 visits at over $200 per visit. None of this was previously explained. I told her that I would like to have the entire procedure done at once. She left the room and came back with a total cost of $590.

When I told them that I had a problem with that amount and would have to speak to my husband about our finances before I agreed to it Joann asked in a rather arrogant tone,' Well what did you expect it was discussed with you earlier?'  I told her that it was not discussed with me and I was not expecting my 20% to be almost $600. That would mean that the whole procedure was about $3000! I told her that I would have to leave. She then told me that if I walked out she would charge me $50 for leaving the appointment.

I told her that I had only brought $450 with me. She left the room and came back to tell me my 20% is actually $410. It was only then that they printed up the explanations of cost and gave them to me. They printed one for the $590 price too. They asked me to sign them both for their records.  I was angry but as calmly as I could I said fine, paid the $50 fee, asked to sign a waiver to release my info to other dentists and left.

I don't believe I should have been charged that fee. The way I see it I fulfilled my end by keeping the appointment. They did not uphold their end. Had the cost been explained to me in advance I would not have agreed to the appointment in the first place nor would I have taken a day off from work without pay to keep the appointment.

She went so far as to say that I was walking out on the appointment because I was afraid. Maybe it was her prices I was afraid of. Payment arrangements were offered and she even said that if I rescheduled the $50 would be credited towards the $410 quote. Did she really think that after the way I had been treated I would return? It's funny how the prices kept changing.

After searching for another dentist I came to find out that her prices are outrageous and that they billed me for services on the first visit that should have been covered by my insurance. She charges $90 for irrigation (a fee my insurance would not cover according to her) where other dentists don't charge at all for it. She was angry and rude to me because I had the sense to ask questions and leave her office. I would not recommend this dentist to anyone.
