This physician has a generally good reputation among his peers. I was told by my neurologist, who recommended him, that he is 'thorough.' However, from my personal experience he has a decided tendency to shoot from the hip, so to speak. And he is usually wrong in his diagnosis when he does so. For example, he ran on about 'bursitis' when my migraines migrated into my neck, despite the fact that he knew full well that I suffered from such. This is just one example among several. He also has a tendency to forget what you originally came to him for--or perhaps he just doesn't keep good enough records--and runs off on tangents rather than address previous concerns. This physician also has a decided tendency to prescribe medication at the drop of a hat without any attempt to adjust diet, in case of high cholesterol readings, or to determine whether high blood pressure readings are the result of tension due to visiting the doctor, which in my case I found to be true after obtaining a personal blood pressure device. But most importantly, the last time I visited this physician, I spent an hour in the 'waiting room' and another 20 minutes in a holding room. This is slightly higher than normal but generally typical. From what I managed to extract from office help on a couple of occasions, this general level of tardiness results from his starting work at 11:00 and then returning from lunch at 2:30. As a result of this inability to maintain a reasonable schedule, he tends to rush patients through as he gets further and further behind. As he said when I complained that he wasn't giving me time to answer his questions, 'I'm just trying to move things along' !!! My general impression is that this physician was at one time quite good at what he did and could therefore afford to behave in what I can only describe as an arrogant manner because he had something superior to offer, but is now coasting on his reputation. As someone in the waiting room remarked, 'You either love him or you hate him.' I think you can guess which category I fall into. Another person mentioned the following, while working out of his briefcase: 'I brought my work with me. I learned my lesson!' Not recommended. |
