Today 2008

Today I went to my first appointment with Dr. Lois J. Raso. He is a pain management doctor. I was referred to him by an Addiction specialist doctor who was detoxing me off opiates. I had planned the whole process well in advance because so could take time off work

I had been on oxycontin for the past 2 years and felt that it was not working for me any longer and I may be addicted.

When I first walked in the office they asked me to pay the $250. I wrote a check because I did not want to go through my insurance. I was afraid if my insurance company knew , It would almost impossible to get medical insurance in the future.

After they had me urinate in a cup. I assumed it was to check for drugs. I was drug free and in a severe amount of pain.

When I saw Dr. Rasso i told him that I could not take any opiates and wanted a shot of cortisone or something that would help me with my pain.  He told me that I would first have to tell him that I was a drug addict. He also knew several things in regards to my past medical history that I never told him or his staff.

At that point he told me that he thought my medical records where fake and told me he couldn't help people like me and only I can help myself. I told he must be confusing me with another patient. I repeated my full name & told him who  I was and why I was there. I asked if he could order a new MRI , I since I was having pain I hadn't had before.  I asked if he could examine me so I could show the muscle twitching. HE SAID I WAS FULL OF SHI' AND I WAS LIEING. .  At that point I reminded him that I was not asking him for any narcotics.  I was in complete shock. No one  even check my blood pressure. I know my urine was clean. I pleaded with him to call the referring Dr. He said he would only be  wast more of his time. He and  his staff refused to give me back my check.

I also suspect there is a  major hipa violation

Not an hour later I called my bank to stop payment on the check and they had already cashed it.

My referring Dr. had even made the  appointment for me so i assumed they new they were aware I was in treatment for opiate addiction.

I still can't stop crying. I have never been treated so badly in my life. Can anyone please help me.

I called my . DR. who referred me there & still have not heard back.

PLEASE< help  What should I do?

My refer. Doc. did call back. He was as suprised & confused as I was.

This is Paige's husband. Never have I seen my wife so distraught. Let me also ad some further info. On Tues. my wife called Dr. Raso's billing dept. to follow up w/ her Re. for her money back. She was informed at that time that he is refusing to return her money and that her urine tested positive for cocaine. My wife is committed to her sobriety. How dare he make such a bold lie. Paige is in treatment w/ a addiction spec.

Well, we promptly ran to the lab to take our own drug test. Surprise, Surprise, N O T!!!!The test was negative for cocaine.

C an this guy be serious! Is he that desperate for $250 bucks?

Please let us know if you get your money back. Even if you were positive for cocaine,he has no right to keep your money. Doctors are robbing people like petty thief's and are getting away with it Florida is a haven for bad doctors because it is one of the few states that do not require mal-practice insurance.

Russo was one of two docs in a row that despite a clear long history of need for narcotics ('01 surgeon decompressed WRONG disk), then followup my Dr. Magana who was on trial for gropping his patients (and got off!), he was good but not good enough.

I am convinced now there is a Black List of us and or us that have insurance that doesnt pay high enough on the dollar. I have signed letters from previous pain management docs saying I should have a morphine pump or be on Narcs for the rest of my life. This list may also include anyone who ever sued another doctor as in my case. I didnt want to but hey, no other way to get antoher surgery and get a surgeon that knew left from right. My 14 year old son was the first to notice the scar on my back shouldnt be that high and this quack offered to fix it back on the table. For four hours he dug around looking at the WRONG Disk.

I asked Russo for my $75 copay back but they refused. He was aware of my previous doctor. His forms were just redone but still sucked so I edited them, like 15 pages and mailed them updates. They totally ignored me. I am sorry you had to go thru that. If you think this guy has power, just wait, I have a story unfolding for you that will blow you away. For now have to keep it sealed. Good luck to the two of you.

Zen,

You rock!!!! Thank you for your comment. Few people are willing to tell their personal hell stories.

Funny, But when I was in treatment that's when I first heard of Dr. Raso. There were several of his ex-patients in there.  Why is Dr. Raso stealing are money and not others? Please e-mail me.

Dr. Raso,

Give my Mommy back her money. You are so mean.

Dr. Raso,

A surge of disdain for your practice is developing and a theme is emerging. This will take off exponentially and soon even refunding the $250 with an apology will be too little, too late. We have power in the Internet and the $75 you gained ripping me off will start to pale as the truth of your behavior is spread across the Internet. It is not slander to tell the truth. All the sites relating to Pain Management doctor's that collect up front then reject any legitimage patients will make a dent in your bottom line, and that seems to be all that you care about. That plus all the sites for any kind of Ripoff will swell with our complaints. I believe there is a blacklist or a set of secret rules doctors like you use and you know in advance who you are going to take and who you arent. You told me upfront my insurance doesnt pay you well yet you still took my copay. This is a violation of your oath of DO NO HARM and makes you worse than a common thief. No matter the amount of effort by us patients, this will all be exposed to friends and the media. Anyone else with similar complaints against Dr. Raso, now is the time to speak out.
