Over the course of 15 years, I have been to a myriad of physicians, and have never experienced such outright incompetence. The condition I was seeking treatment for is Chronic Pain due to Chronic Pancreatitis. Dr. Gramley's policy is he will not prescribe narcotic pain relievers for they result in substance abuse. The majority of medical research suggests otherwise. Most medical literature suggests that pain alleviation is the main treatment for this debilitating illness. I was treated accordingly for many years, and never experienced any issues from the treatment. In fact, the treatment was a profound success! I was able to function with diminished pain and negligible side effects. (I have since relocated, thus the trauma of Dr. Gramley). Without conducting any tests, scans, blood work, etc., researching my medical records, or consulting with my original surgeon (at Duke), he recommended scheduling me for additional surgery! The original surgery was performed with the warning that there was a 25% chance of complications. Now I have diabetes, and medical literature suggests the odds of complications rise dramatically due to this condition! Additionally, it took well over a year to recover from the original surgery. In essence, his recommendation is to put my life at considerable risk, compound my pain stratospherically, eliminate all productivity by reducing me to a bed-ridden convalescent, and putting me in untold thousands of dollars in debt. And the alternate solution is a prescription that would average ~ $15.00 a month. Whoever issued a Medical License to a person who is so patently unfamiliar with the most basic medical ideology and uses such contorted logic needs to review their practices, and keep incompetents like Dr. Gramley from practicing medicine!
