Re: Death of female silver Persian after spaying by Dr. Jonathan Bach, Marlboro Village Veterinary Hospital on 2/26/2008

I purchased a pure breed silver female Persian from Pet Paradise, 314 U.S. Highway 9 North, Marlboro, NJ, on 11/15/2007. Pet Paradise informed me that Dr. Jonathan Bach is their affiliated veterinarian who has been treating the female Persian since her arrival in NJ.

I then arranged an appointment with Dr. Jonathan Bach on 2/9/2008 for the female Persian’s blood test since I wanted to prepare her for the spaying procedure.

After the blood test, I arranged a spaying operation for the Persian on 2/26/2007.

On 2/26/2008, I arrived at Marlboro Village Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Bach met me at the patient’s room. He verified that the cat was fit for surgery. He checked the heart, eyes, tummy and temperature.

He took out a cost estimate and pointed to a high ($861.30) and a low amount ($743.77). He explained the difference is due to the cost of medication. I told him I would like to have the best treatment for my kitties. He then crossed out the low amount and asked me to sign for the consent of the cost. Dr. Bach did not alert me about any possible surgical risk. I put down my signature on one page of the bill to authorize the extra charge.

Dr. Jonathan Bach called me at 3:40PM and informed me about Midnight’s decease, after he operated on her.

A complaint was filed with NJ Consumer Affairs. NJ Consumer Affairs also supplied information, which NJ State Board has fined Dr. Bach for $6000 in connection with the death of a puppy sold at Pet Paradise in January 2008.
